DINNER AT THE PALAIS DE CHINE IN TAIPEI

In Taiwan for a weekend food trip, we booked three nights at the Palais de Chine in the heart of downtown Taipei. This luxury hotel is billed as the only five-star museum hotel in Taiwan. It’s also famous for having two excellent restaurants.

It’s home to the the Le Palais Cantonese restaurant, which received three Michelin stars from the Guide Michelin. It also has an upscale steak and seafood grill restaurant called La Rotisserie.

The La Rotisserie is one of the most popular buffet restaurants in this part of Taipei. Upscale diners come here to have high quality sushi and a great appetiser buffet and salad bar. Then for the main course, they order aged steaks and lobsters from the grill.

THE BEST RESTAURANT IN TAIPEI

Of course, Le Palais is the crown jewel of Palais de Chine. It is considered the best restaurant in Taiwan. It is the city’s only Michelin three star restaurant. We also booked dinner at La Palais but we decided to eat there on our second evening. So we booked a table at La Rotisserie for some great aged steaks and lobsters instead.

RESERVE A TABLE IN ADVANCE

If you are headed this way, please make sure you book tables in advance for these restaurants. La Rotisserie is an upscale dining venue so the food is top quality but prices are definitely not cheap.

However they are excellent value considering what you get. Apparently, we were not the only ones to think so. Every table in the restaurant was full that night and there was actually a line to get in for first seating at 6 PM.

STEAKS AND LOBSTER FOR DINNER AT LA ROTISSERIE RESTAURANT

For dinner, we ordered aged prime rib steaks as a main course because these are always delicious at fine restaurants. Then we decided to share a grilled lobster between us, and this came perfectly cooked with sea urchin butter on top. It was so good.

There is also a very good quality buffet of appetisers and desserts. It’s a decent variety and the food is excellent. We especially enjoyed the unlimited sushi bar with different varieties of aburi sushi.

A GOOD BEGINNING AT PALAIS DE CHINE

For dessert, we sampled some of their ice cream. The chocolate ice cream was excellent. We ended our dinner very satisfied with our first evening in Taipei for a weekend food trip.
